Why Choose American Aberdeen?

About american aberdeen Cattle

Aberdeen cattle are not a new breed, nor are they just a novelty breed.  Aberdeen cattle were developed at the Trangie Research Centre in New South Wales, Australia. Animal Scientists began with a herd of registered Champion Angus cattle, purchased in 1929, that were carefully selected for high quality and small size. The end result was a breed of small, black, polled cattle with pure Angus genetics. Aberdeens are true Angus cattle, they do not carry any dwarfism genes.  They are very docile and are known for their great mothering ability.  Aberdeen cattle are easy calving and are very feed efficient and maintain themselves on grass. Aberdeen cows maintain themselves on about half the feed that is required by a full size crossbred cow and wean more pounds of calf per acre.

Aberdeens have excellent taste, texture and tenderness beef characteristics and exceptional ribeye area per hundred pounds of body weight which translates to very high yielding, high quality, high value beef carcasses. Drain Cattle Company Aberdeens will not be given antibiotics unless we are treating a life threatening condition and will never be given any growth hormones.  It is very important to us to maintain our Aberdeens the most natural way possible, so that we can provide high quality breeding stock and delicious all natural beef.

About Us

Drain Cattle Company is located in Southwest Nebraska, equal distance between Denver, CO and Lincoln, NE.  We have been raising cattle since 2014, and began raising American Aberdeens at the start of 2017.  We were drawn to Aberdeens because of their extremely docile nature, good mothering ability, and the ability to graze more cattle per acre opposed to the larger, more prevalent breeds.  We love our animals, and feel very fortunate to be able to live this lifestyle.  At Drain Cattle Company, it is a family affair, everybody helps out and enjoys spending time with our cattle.  Our Aberdeens graze freely on grass, but also frequently get supplements of good quality alfalfa and cane.  Our goal is to offer high quality breeding stock, as well as delicious homegrown beef.  Our offerings will vary with each calving season depending on our ratio of heifers and bulls and our customer's needs.  We will also offer a variety of additional breeds such as miniature cattle crosses as available.
